Disabilities In Hue

A couple of months ago I was given the opportunity to go down to the middle of Vietnam, to Hue, to document the lives of Bach and his lovely family, and the good work that Caritas and SRD are doing down there, empowering local disabled people more photos here.

Bike Trip 2010: I

Up to Ha Giang with good friends, whiskey and guitars. These photos are using a digital point and shoot although I was mainly shooting film with my Zenit 122 (those to come later). Trouble with having a film camera is once the film's loaded you're stuck with that ISO, and as the weather was erratic I ended up using the Zenit less than i wanted to. Neverthless i had fun with the point and shoot - a wee Canon IXUS - especially the macro feature.

Canon A1 Test

I asked the owner of the shop where I buy medium format films to fix this camera for me. He said he would. He didn't. I went back again and again to ask him and always he told me to come back that evening or tomorrow. Around the 5th time of asking he finally fixed it and I took it out for an afternoon around the city centre. I then bought it and took it home. I showed it to my girlfriend when I got there and it had stopped working. We went straight back to the shop and the owner immediately offered to give me my money back. He told me that he hadn't wanted to sell me the camera at all, and that he couldn't believe I kept coming back.
So, a few frames from that afternoon as a kind of ode to cultural differences.

In The Interest Of Looking Back

More unearthed shots from Tet, this time from new years eve. Spent at Nicholas' shiny, beautiful new apartment looking out onto Truc Bach Lake. Wine, cheese, friends, paints, pots, canvases, music, and smearing of colours while the fireworks exploded outside, virtually invisible behind the foggy drizzle. And behind that curtain, in between periods mutilating a nice white canvas with my clumsy brushes, I played with the second curtain flash setting and my new wide-angle lens.

Tet Festival 2010
