Here are some shots from Marion and Camilla's party at the Ly Club. It's a great venue and they threw a fine party for their awesome and eclectic group of friends. thankyou to all of them for making me very much a part of the celebrations rather than just an observer, chuc suc khoe! And I wish Marion and Camilla and all their friends a happy and fun-filled future together.

Marion & Camilla Engagement

Izakaya Yancha

Last night, as part of The Word's year in review, I visited izakaya yancha, a japanese restaurant which opened 7 months ago. Saori and Nam made me very welcome and everyone seemed to enjoy having a photographer there. As I was getting ready to leave Nam offered to make me some food and, never being one to refuse japanese food, or any kind of food, I accepted. So I had a bowl of some the tastiest tofu I've ever eaten, in sesame sauce and covered with shredded chicken and an un-nameable onion, followed by a couple of grilled soy sauce rice balls. Mmmmmmm. I'm not surprised the place was busy. Alas I don't have any photos of the food as I fell on it like an impatient, starving cow. Next time I'll remember, but until then here are some photos of a few things that I didn't eat:

Hoang Graffiti

Some frames from the other afternoon. Hoang took me to a wall out in Long Bien district where he and his friends practice their spraying skills. Graffiti is illegal here in Vietnam, but looking at what Hoang's capable of I think what I always think when I see good graffiti, that is I'd love to see more of it around. Thanks to Hoang for taking me out there and showing me what he can do. Unfortunately I couldn't stick around to see the finished article, but hopefully he took a photo and I can post it here later on...

Marion & Camilla Wedding Shots

Here are a few shots from the ceremony and lunch for the lovely ladies Marion and Camilla; what a fun couple of days those were! A big thankyou to Aidan Dockery from Eden Images who referred the couple to me, I really couldn't have hoped for a kinder, better introduction to wedding photography. It was a real privilege to be allowed into Marion and Camilla's lives to witness their civil ceremony, and I have to say kudos to the British Consulate Hanoi for being one of the few places in this part of the world that offer this service - I hope more cities/countries start to do so; truly they're missing out if they don't. After the ceremony there was lunch at the Sofitel Metropole. more to come later from their engagement shoot and party.....

Latest Holga Shots

Some Recent Outtakes

The next issue of the magazine I work for is going to be a review of 2010. For one section, each of the photographers has been asked to select some of their favourite photos from the year's assignments that, for whatever reason didn't get published, to be published in the new year. It's a nice idea as these particular shots will be pretty much 100% down to the photographers' personal taste, whereas normally the editorial team will make their own selection from the batch that the photographers send through - sometimes these would be exactly the ones that I like best and sometimes not; but it's always interesting to see what makes the cut. It's also a chance to reflect on how my photography has grown over the past 6 months from my first ever editorial assignment in June/July of this year. And I'm happy to say that it's the latest photos from the more recent assignments that are my better ones. Anyway, here are the two from my choices which will be published.....

A Recent Favourite

Having some time to kill before a recent photo shoot I wandered fairly aimlessly around the streets. The sun was going down, and as it reflected of the steps of an office block I thought of a photo I'd like to take. I lay in wait, like a waiting thing, for the moment to happen. It didn't, and just when I was really getting bored and thinking of leaving I saw this. It wasn't the picture I'd wanted, but I think it's better than that unshot shot.
